Steve Garrett presents an inspiring book - scientifically rigorous, aesthetically irresistible and joyous - where Steve (the geologist) and Lida Lopes Cardozo Kindersley (the stone carver and letter cutter) looked at a material in common: ancient rock. The talk explores connections between a geologist's scientific perspective and a stone carver's artistic vision, with local examples. Engagingly presented and beautifully illustrated, the talk reflects the intimate, almost spiritual, relationship that these two disciplines share with rocks and stones. WIth particular emphasis on local Purbeck and Portland stone. Part of the mini-festival 'Quarry to Castle Trail Week: Expressing the Earth – Walk it, Write it, Sculpt it'
