THE BOYS FROM ABOYNE
... an absorbing and intimate evening of two perfectly contrasted instruments and players … tonal blending of guitar and bass ... equal partners, creating an improvised counterpoint, rather than merely melody and accompaniment ... improvising was mature and always organically related to the composition and mood … an excellent musical meditation with much to delight the ear and mind … positively inspiring.'
Moray Jazz Club
" ... a tasteful, melodic and inventive jazz guitarist ... what they do with folky themes, jazzy chords and a sliver of Bach is a delight ... lush strings ... growling percussive bass ... the nimble dance of the music suits their duet playing perfectly ... time stands still ... will not disappoint."
Marc Higgins, FATEA
"... an attractive and readily accessible collection of tunes ... precise acoustic guitar picking ... the prospect of a longer release one to look forward to"

" ...there is some truly magical playing here, melodic and beautifully performed."
Tom Hilton, Aldora Britain Records Community

Listen to us here and watch us here.
Peter Lowit and I perform tasteful, melodic, attractive and readily accessible new music for guitar and double bass. Echoes of legendary duos in this format such as Danny Thompson & John Martin, Charle Haden & Pat Metheny or Gary Peacock & Ralph Towner.
Beautiful tunes that fuse genres - folky themes, jazzy chords, renaissance rhythm and filmy atmosphere in tunes we love and new compositions.
We take our name from my village where we rehearse.
We launched our EP 'In Arden' at the 2019 Edinburgh Festival Fringe and have played at diverse venues across NE Scotland ranging from the Blue Lamp Aberdeen to Migvie Kirk. One performance at the 2024 Edinburgh Festival Fringe inspired a haiku by Geopoetrick:
The Boys from Aboyne
Music for the soul
Bossa novo to Rodrigo
They are no new boys
